Crews work around the clock!

The Street maintenance division of the Public Works department of the City of Pasco spent tireless hours over the weekend with road crews working 24 hours a day, Saturday & Sunday & through Monday.

The trucks include anti-icer, sanders, road graders & front end loaders. The main goal of the road crews is public safety for the people the must travel the roads during hazardous weather including emergency vehicles and rescue units, hospitals and emergency rooms.

There are several steps involved in providing safe streets, first to lay down the anti-icer on the roads ahead of the storms to facilitate safe driving. As the storm progresses and evolves, the road crews move up to grading and sanding of the streets to keep the streets open and passable. This is the stage we are at right now; crews are working on the roads around the clock (in 12 hour shifts) to keep sanding the roads for safe passage to folks who are commuting today. The road crews have plowed the highways, the main arterial, the feeder streets and some residential connector streets. We will continue with these efforts, rotating back through the top priority streets as often as needed. This facilitates a safer commute but it takes us away from the residential areas where the streets are less traveled. Jess Greenough, Field Division Manager explains, “The snow removal patterns are designed to facilitate travel through the city. You may need to travel a block or two out of your usual travel pattern but everyone can get to a connector or arterial street and onto the main highways to commute during this hazardous weather”. After the storm subsides the street crews continue to clean-up the roads to provide more open pathways for folks to move through the city.
