[ARCHIVED] Study ranks Pasco in top ten "Boomtowns" in America

Over the Columbia

SmartAsset, a financial advice site, recently rated Pasco as one of the top ten "Boomtowns" in the US for 2022.

The #8 ranking was out of 494 of the largest cities across topics measuring the growth of the population, income, GDP, businesses, housing, and changes in unemployment. For Pasco's entry, the ranking noted:

"Income in Pasco, Washington, has seen nearly a 45% increase between 2016 and 2021, ranking 18th-highest for this metric. The city also ranks 21st-best for five-year population change, which has increased by 17.04% over the same time period. Business within the county where Pasco is located is also booming, as Franklin County has had an 18.33% increase in the number of businesses between 2015 and 2020."

This growth has been fueled by many factors, and the growth looks to be continuing with the construction of new Amazon, Darigold, and Local Bounti facilities, along with the planned development of the Broadmoor area. See the full study here.

This most recent national recognition joins the other national and statewide honors Pasco has received in the last few years:

  • The community won a 2022, 2020, and 2019 "Municipal Excellence Award" from the Association of Washington Cities for a variety of community-building and quality-of-life efforts
  • The City of Pasco was a 2019 and 2018 finalist for "All-America City" from the National Civic League
  • Pasco’s crime rate has dropped more than 80% since 1990 and is cited as one of the safest cities in the state in several recent surveys

The City of Pasco strives to continue improving the quality of community life in Pasco.
